Adam Azim, the younger brother of jailed former defence minister Mohamed Nazim, has filed an appeal of the remand imposed on him by the Criminal Court.
The minister of the Maldives United Opposition (MUO)’s shadow cabinet was arrested last Thursday under allegations of working to topple the government and spreading false information regarding the judiciary of the Maldives.
His lawyer confirmed Sunday that he is appealing the court’s six-day remand on him.
Meanwhile, members of the opposition coalition have slammed the government over his arrest, declaring that the act is politically motivated and the allegations against him are false.
His brother Colonel Mohamed Nazim is convicted of weapons possession and currently serving a jail sentence of 11 years.
