The residences of the former administration's flat committee members are being searched.

According to an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) media official, the commission launched a search operation in collaboration with the police at the residences of the former flat committee members under a court order to investigate a criminal case being investigated by the commission.

The search, which began early this morning, is still ongoing, he said.

There are five members on the "Gedhoruveringe Committee" (loosely translated to Homeowners Committee) set up to oversee the Binveriyaa and Gendhoruveriyaa schemes under the previous government's housing program.

Mihaaru News reported that the ACC searched the residences of former State Minister of Housing Ministry and flat committee Chair Akram Kamaluddin, and former Executive Directors Ahmed Visan Naseem, Mohamed Arif, and Liruaam Waheed.

The ACC had ordered the government to stop the allocation of 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme after a permanent list of flat recipients was published just two days before the end of the last government.

Following two months of investigation, the ACC found that 60 percent of the 4000 listed recipients had not met the eligibility criteria. The recipients devoid of any faults were 20.7 percent while 19.7 percent of the applications had misinformation in their forms despite passing the criteria.
