Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has revealed that the missing Cargo ship "M Savaaree", which went missing while en-route to Vaavu atoll from Malé city has capsized and six people onboard have been rescued from the sea.
The ship had departed from Malé at 1:30 am. The search operation began this morning when there was no information about the ship.
The MNDF Dornier aircraft spotted the passengers in the search area, far away from the ship. However, no further details about the vessel have been provided.
According to a chart shared with the media by MNDF, the ship sank off the coast of Fulidhoo. The six passengers were rescued by the Coast Guard naval ship "Ghaazee" and are reported to be in good health.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has advised people to exercise caution while travelling during this period, as heavy rains and rough seas are expected.
