Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) predicts a rainy forecast for the weekend.

A MET official said to Mihaaru News that light to moderate thundershowers are to likely occur in north and central parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

However, they said wind speed will be low and that the seas are predicted to remain smooth.

MET predicts heavy rainfall next week, while satellite images show heavy rain gathering over the country.

With the second round of voting set for Saturday, the campaign has picked up momentum. Since all campaigning must cease at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 29, it is anticipated that major rallies will be held leading up to that evening deadline.

Maldives is currently experiencing southwest monsoon season.

Baa atoll Funadhu recorded the heaviest rainfall in the last 24 hours. The island received 48 mm rainfall.
