Ministry of Islamic Affairs has opened proposal submission window for interested agencies to arrange Umrah transfers.

The ministry has called for proposals to be submitted by October 8, marking the second opportunity extended by the authority in 2023.

The ministry said that agencies with pending permits or those with dues due in November will now have the opportunity to apply for permit renewal.

Information about the prospect will be covered in the "proposal book" which is now available on the ministry's website.

Eligible agencies will receive a two-year permit to offer Umrah transfers. Furthermore, the ministry has prohibited collection of advance fees without prior permission, which it said was a culpable offense.

Earlier in August, the ministry promised to take legal action against unauthorized agencies that were charging fees for Umrah trips without the necessary permits.

In addition to private third-party agencies, the Maldives Hajj Corporation is also responsible for organizing pilgrim trips for Hajj and Umrah, which are two sacred acts of worship in the Islamic faith.
