President Solih pledges Dharavandhoo Airport expansion and island development

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced a comprehensive plan to not only expand the airport on Dharavandhoo, a thriving economic hub within the Baa Atoll, but also to implement initiatives to develop the island.

Speaking at a ceremony in Dharavandhoo as part of his presidential election campaign, President Solih said that the island already hosts a highly profitable airport. However, he highlighted the significance of enhancing its capacities to meet increasing demands.

Among these initiatives, President Solih touched upon plans to enhance health services by making improvements to the health center. He further pledged to address housing issues by constructing rowhouses or flats .

The President also affirmed his commitment to constructing additional classrooms for the school if he is re-elected for a second term in office.

"We will modernize all major roads on the island and initiate asphalt laying. We also plan to designate an uninhabited island near Dharavandhoo for picnics," President Solih.

President Solih announced that as part of the initiative focused on protecting the island, he would initiate a second phase to ensure the island's welfare. This includes the construction of a office complex to facilitate administrative functions while safeguarding the island's interests. The President also reiterated his commitment to expanding and improving the airport to enhance connectivity.

The President also revealed intentions to set up an outpost within the biosphere reserve of Hanifaru Bay for ecological preservation.
