Cargo shipment from India contained 15kg hashish oil

Maldives Customs Service has stated that the narcotic substance seized from a cargo container is confirmed to be 15.5 kilograms of hashish oil.

The illicit substances were first discovered during a special operation conducted by authorities in Male' Commercial Harbor last week.

Maldives Customs in a statement on Tuesday confirmed that the shipment had arrived from India's Tuticorin Port on May 29.

The special operation conducted in collaboration between Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Police Service was executed from June 9-11 at the commercial harbor premises following intel over narcotics smuggling.

Meanwhile, authorities note that the seized hashish oil from the operation held a street value of approximately MVR 4 million.

Authorities have in recent months intensified their crackdown on narcotics smuggling with extensive monitoring measures along with enhanced intelligence gathering.
