Maldives' Health Minister meets Director General of WHO

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen met with the Director General of World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom, on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

Minister Ameen departed on the official trip to participate in WHO's Fourth Global Ministerial Patient Safety Summit, which is being held from March 2 - 3.

According to the health ministry, Ameen and Adhanom discussed ways to overcome the challenges faced by island nations in providing healthcare services.

Additionally, the ministry revealed that the two parties discussed the challenges in seeking medical treatment abroad and finding qualified doctors.

The talks also revolved around training opportunities for medical professionals.

The fourth summit's main focus is the promotion of patient safety in low and middle-income countries, which have two-thirds of the global patient harm burden.

Furthermore, the summit will launch the Jeddah Declaration of Patient Safety, which will focus on important recommendations to maintain the momentum of the global patient safety movement.

The event is attended by 50 ministers from various countries and seniors officials from WHO.
