Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Saturday, met with the Foreign Ministers of Belgium, Kuwait and the Dominican Republic as well as Permanent Representatives of eight other nations in New York.

Minister Shahid discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties and promote multilateral cooperation on global issues during his meetings with the foreign ministers.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Shahid also met the Permanent Representatives of Fiji, Singapore, India, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. The discussion focused on issues of mutual interest and avenues for further cooperation. Minister Shahid highlighted obstacles such as climate change and other critical problems faced by Maldives.

The Foreign minister is currently on a visit to New York in the USA, to speak at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate “Addressing impacts of climate-related disasters on international peace and security”, which was held on January 25.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr Ahmed Khaleel, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the United States, Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, and senior officials at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York.
