Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, departed to Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday on his first diplomatic mission to the country.

Minister Shahid will meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Taro Kono, and other high-level officials from the Japanese government.
The two countries are to hold discussions on further strengthening the historic and close bilateral relations between Maldives and Japan.
According to the Ministry, the Minister is accompanied by Minister of Finance Ahmed Ameer, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and officials from the Foreign Ministry.
While accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on his recent state visit to India, Minister Shahid, during their visit to the Taj Mahal, stated, "We are a government that maintains good relations with all countries."
The Minister has revealed that diplomats will depart to various countries in the near future.
Prior to departing to Japan, Minister Shahid, conducted state visits to both United Arab Emirates and India. The Minister has visited India twice since his appointment.
Meanwhile, President Solih is scheduled to depart to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in early 2019.
