Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has joined the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today.

In a ceremony held at the party's headquarters, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih accepted the membership form from his former Vice President Faisal.

Speaking at the ceremony, Solih commended Faisal for his honest and hardworking nature. He declared Faisal to be a trustworthy man, and said that welcoming Faisal to the party would bring new vigour to MDP as well.

"Faisal is someone who actively took part and engaged in work. So, in the upcoming parliamentary elections, he will be actively working with us," Solih said.

Faisal left Jumhooree Party last month after having been a member for sixteen years. Although he remained a member of Jumhooree Party, he did not maintain close ties with the party leader Gasim Ibrahim during his tenure as the country's Vice President.

Faisal expressed happiness and satisfaction in having signed up to be a member of MDP.

He said that there is a need for collaboration at present to address the multiple concerning issues faced by the people. The former VP emphasized that it is imperative to try to win a majority for MDP in the upcoming parliamentary elections as the party is one that works closely with citizens to address shared concerns.

Faisal praised Solih as someone he had admired since about twenty years ago when he had first come into politics through his position in the special majlis. At the time, he was also a member of MDP.

Although he had left MDP after serving as a member of the party's first national congress, Faisal said that he had always worked in line with the principles and ideology of MDP.
