Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim proclaimed that the government has achieved its first target for the country's health sector and is gearing up to reach the second one.

He made the remark while speaking at the opening of “Health Care Quality Framework” workshop at Hotel Jen in capital Male. The first target aimed for the health sector to establish at least one doctor and one pharmacy in all inhabited islands of the country.

“After the completion of the first target, we are now aiming for our second: to give quality services for the people,” said Nazim.

Stressing the unlimited national health insurance funded by the government, “Husnuvaa Aasandha”, Minister Nazim declared reaching the first target a huge achievement for the sector. He added that it reflects the priority given by the president to develop the health sector.

Furthermore, Minister Nazim said that the geographical distribution of the Maldive Islands and lack of resources in the islands are major challenges for the development of the sector.

The workshop which aims to improve the standard of health service centers will be conducted for two days. With over 80 participants, the lectures will be given by World Health Organization’s experts.
