Tree Top Hospital on Tuesday, May 22 said that the starting price for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) services provided by the hospital is MVR 46,000.

According to Tree Top Hospital's Chief Executive Officer Adil Moosa, the management conducted various evaluations and assessments before finalizing the price for IVF services. This included a price analysis of similar services offered in other countries in the South Asian region. The IVF Center at Tree Top Hospital is set to commence operations on Monday, May 29.

A significant number of Maldivians seeking IVF treatments choose to go to either India or Sri Lanka, where the treatment cost generally ranges between USD 2000 to USD 5000 (MVR 30,840 to MVR 77,100).

Infertility treatment services such as IVF are not covered under Aasandha, the state-initiated health insurance scheme in the Maldives. As a result, patients and their families bear the burden of substantial costs associated with these services. The availability of IVF services at Tree Top Hospital in the Maldives aims to provide a more accessible and cost-effective option for individuals seeking such treatments.

Speaking about the introduction of IVF in the Maldives, Tree Top Hospital's CEO said that the introduction of IVF services in the Maldives will be offered at a starting price of MVR 46,000. This price includes the cost of consultation and one IVF administration of embryo transfer.

Adil said that the hospital is working with Aasandha to explore the coverage that can be given for IVF services through the health insurance scheme.

Although formal discussions have not been held to seek coverage for IVF services under the Aasandha scheme, the hospital is seeking cost-efficient approaches to assist patients. Adil said that the hospital has reached out to Aasandha, requesting the necessary information to apply for coverage under the scheme.

Tree Top Hospital’s IVF Center will be launched in collaboration with South Australian Indian Medical Association (SAIMA).
