Dhivehi Rayythunge Party (DRP) appointed Ibrahim Shiham as its new Vice President on November 14.
The party's council unanimously approved the appointment of Shiham, the younger brother of DRP president and Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.
The council also unanimously approved the designation of Abdulla Afeef as the party's new Secretary General.
The position of vice president was previously filled by Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) while Nahla Ali served as the former Secretary General. Both individuals recently joined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
DRP president Jabir revealed to local media outlet Mihaaru that major leadership changes were being introduced in order to increase the number of members and strengthen the party.
Following the party council's decision to appoint him as DRP president on July 23, Jabir has conducted activities in the capital city of Male' and other islands in order to increase the party's membership. The DRP president revealed that he aims to boost the number of party members to 10,000 in early 2020.
DRP council has scheduled the party congress from February 27 to 29. Jabir revealed that the congress would be held in Kaashidhoo or Gaafaru, both of which are located in Kaafu Atoll.
