High Court to hold hearings after hours to conclude pending cases

High court has decided to begin efforts to commence trials after business hours at the court in order to close cases that have been pending for long durations.

High court has stated that prioritized efforts have been begun to expedite the conclusion of pending case trials.

The court stated today that judges who will perform specific tasks for the expedited closing of cases that have been pending for long durations have been determined.

The process is planned so as to progress in phases. The first phase will concern the conclusion of cases from the year 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

The court added that dedicated slots have been allocated for the trial procedures to commence after working hours at 1430 hrs every day in order to close these pending cases.

The matter of appeal cases remaining unconcluded at High Court has always been a cause of concern. Additionally, lawyers have also expressed concerns regarding the years of prolonged hearing delays in some court cases.
