Following the retirement of Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannaan Yoosuf has been appointed as Acting Commissioner on Thursday.
A Police Media Official confirmed that Home Minister Imran Abdulla had brought into effect Mannaan's appointment in line with the Police Act.
Mannaan was promoted to the post of Deputy Commissioner on November 19, 2018. He has served in the police services for 29 years to date.
Retired Commissioner Hameed had served in the position for the longest duration since the establishment of Maldives Police Services and Maldives National Defence Force as separate entities.
He was appointed as Commissioner on March 26, 2019.
The next Commissioner of Police will be appointed by President Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu after his inauguration later today.
