Maldives and Azerbaijan signed two agreements.
The government has signed an agreement with Azerbaijan to allow Maldivian diplomatic and official passport holders to get visa free entry into Azerbaijan for a period of 90 days.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC in Baku, Azerbaijan by Maldives' Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
According to the Foreign Ministry, two agreements were signed during the meeting of the Ministers; one on the visa matter, and the other on mutual tourism promotion efforts.
Under the first agreement, the two countries also agreed to undertake discussions to allow all Maldivians to travel to Azerbaijan without a visa. As such, the Foreign Ministry said that this agreement is an important step in the efforts to facilitate visa-free travel for all Maldivians.
Under the tourism agreement, the two countries agreed to promote tourism for mutual economic, cultural and social benefits.
Maldives' diplomatic passports are issued to state officials and their families. Official passports are only available to certain persons with official statuses or individuals decided by Maldives Immigration.
