Last year, 378,848 people sought outpatient services, and 43,178 were provided inpatient services.

MVR 298 million was spent on inpatient services where treatment was provided through being admitted in hospital.

Ministry of Finance said that they had observed that Aasandha coverage was used even to consult doctors for minor ailments. They said that in many instances, the ailment in question is not identified, leading to numerous consultations, X-rays, laboratory tests and scans. The ministry, however, conceded that this is oftentimes due to the lack of a health system set up in the country which align with general medical treatment practices and policies.

The ministry said that as is, the health system poses possibilities of being misused. They said that changes are now being implemented to resolve this, including many changes to Aasandha services.

The Finance Ministry estimates that through these changes to Aasandha, MVR 600 million can be saved next year.
