Addu City Council has said on Tuesday that defense forces have started a five month training program in Addu.

In an announcement made by the council, they said Maldives National Defense Force's (MNDF) Marine Corps will continue these trainings in Addu until April of 2023.

The military personnel will be in their army uniforms and using weaponry during their trainings, which will take place in all wards of Addu.

An employee of Addu City Council informed Mihaaru that these trainings started on Saturday. The council made the announcement to reassure the citizens of Addu that these are trainings being carried out.

While these trainings are ongoing, recently, a group of people linked to terrorist group ISIS have been stopped from carrying out a bomb blast in Addu. Several people have been arrested in the case and are currently in custody.
