Maldives' MVR 1000 banknote captures attention of foreigners for its beauty

The MVR 1000 banknote of Maldives has gained massive popularity within social media. The appealing design of this banknote which incorporates features of the country's nature has gained the widespread attention of foreigners.

The MVR 1000 banknote of Maldives has widely captured the attention of foreigners for its attractive design.

This bank note is highly popular among tourists visiting Maldives for their vacations. Multiple tourists has taken pictures and videos of the note and uploaded it to social platforms, TikTok and Instagram

The unique maritime design of this banknote sports various shades of vibrant blues to represent the Maldivian ocean that is home to rare species of sea life and features a majestic whale shark and an intricate turtle on either sides. These features designed to display the nature and beauty of Maldives are highly appealing to foreigners.

Some of the comments on videos circulated on TikTok and Instagram remarks that such a beautiful design has never before been seen in a banknote. These videos have over 2-3 million views.

As reported by Maldives Insider, this bank note had also ranked second in the 'Outstanding New Banknote Design' category by the International Banknote Society (IBNS) from within the currencies of 18 different countries.

This note is part of the 'Ran Dhihafaheh' banknote series which translates to 'Golden Fifty' unveiled on November 1, 2015 following the end of paper banknotes previously used across the country. This series includes banknotes of MVR 5, MVR 10, MVR 20, MVR 50, MVR 100, MVR 500 and MVR 1000.

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) had launched a nationwide competition in order to ensure these notes were designed by a Maldivian, which was won by a youthful native designer, Mr Abdulla Nashaath. He worked alongside MMA and the banknote manufacturer to incorporate currency-friendly themes into the illustrations which was then redrawn by De La Rue with the incorporation of security features. The font used in the note was also designed exclusively for the series by four talented Maldivians.
