Inquiry report on Nasheed's attack must be implemented at the earliest: Aslam

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam has said that he would like to fully implement the inquiry report prepared by the Parliament into the attack on former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam has said that he would like to fully implement the inquiry report prepared by the Parliament into the attack on former President Mohamed Nasheed.

He made the remarks on the three-year anniversary of the May 6, 2021 attack on Nasheed when he had stepped out of his premises with his bodyguards and walked towards his car.

As soon as the Parliament convened for the day, Speaker Aslam said that the investigation in the case should be expedited and it was important to conclude the trials.

"On behalf of the Parliament, we urge for the prompt implementation of the recommendations outlined in the inquiry report, which has been prepared and made public in this regard," stated Aslam.," Aslam said.

Aslam also added that violence and extremist views must be eradicated from the country.

Nasheed sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a major surgery while he was Speaker. He underwent prolonged hospitalization and treatment as a result.

The prosecution pressed charged Adhuham Ahmed from Vaavu Thinadhoo, Mujaz Ahmed from Male', Thahumeen Ahmed from Gaafu Alifu Kondey, Ali Haisham from Noonu Manadhoo, Fahumy Ali from Gaafu Alifu Vilingili, Mohamed Nazim from Alifu Alifu Maalhos, and Ishaaq from Male' in the case.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's representative in the investigation of case, Special Envoy Abbas Faiz recently said that the explanation given by the agencies for the delay in the trial against the perpetrators of the terror attack was unacceptable.
