Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) declared on Monday that 1,500 people will take part in their congress to be held in Alif Alif Atoll's Ukulhas at the end of June.
During a press gathering held at MDP's office, the party's Chairperson Hassan Latheef said that 1,000 people from capital Male will go to Ukulhas. He stated that MDP supporters have the chance to purchase the party ticket and take part in the congress.
200 tickets will be up for purchase.
Including people from other islands, over 1,500 people will take part in the congress. He added that hosting a congress in an island was proving to be hard task.
Accommodation and transportation would be arranged for those travelling to Ukulhas. Some people will be accommodated in nearby islands as well.
MPD's congress is to be held on June 28 and 29.
After MDP's initial attempts to hold the congress in Dharubaaruge convention centre in Male failed, the party decided to host the congress in Ukulhas instead.
Meanwhile, the Elections Commission has repeatedly stated that they will not accept former President Mohamed Nasheed as MDP's presidential candidate, as Nasheed's conviction to 13 years in jail under terrorism charges renders him ineligible to run for president.
