Billabong International Brings Two New Subjects to Maldives

Billabong High International School is all set to introduce two subjects, 'Wellbeing' and 'Digital Literacy', for Lower Secondary Cambridge in the next academic year.

The primary goal of the Wellbeing subject under the Cambridge syllabus is to ensure the mental and physical well-being of students. This subject aims to instruct students on self-awareness, building self-esteem, empathizing with others' emotions, and effectively managing the stresses and obstacles encountered in life.

The digital literacy curriculum, specific to Lower Secondary at Cambridge, is designed to equip students with the skills needed for a technology-dependent digital age. The school stated that the curriculum covers areas related to healthy Internet use, digital ethics, computational thinking, and coding.

The subject will focus on problem-solving activities and projects to help students learn how to think in this digital age, the school said in a statement. Additionally, the school aims to teach students how to use technology responsibly through innovative thinking and make them creators of such tools, rather than just resource users.

Ismail Saudullah, Principal of Billabong International, said, "In a digitally advanced era, it is crucial to learn how to use information from the Internet responsibly and promote one's creativity."

"By incorporating these aspects into the school curriculum, we aim to ensure the development of students' self-esteem and prepare them for future challenges," the principal added.

The principal emphasized that the school's primary goal is to equip its students with the skills to make a global difference through these two subjects. He proudly mentioned that Billabong International is the first school in the country to introduce these subjects.
