Curfew in Greater Male' Area extended till May 25

Health Protection Agency (HPA) extended the curfew in place to limit movement in the Greater Male' Area by another week, on Tuesday.

The curfew initially announced on May 12 will now end on May 25. The curfew prohibits going out from 1600hrs to 0400hrs everyday.

The announcement was signed by the Director General of HPA, Maimoona Aboobakuru.

This new development also extends the ban of dine-in service in restaurants and cafe's in the Greater Male' Area. Shops also have to be closed during curfew hours.

However, delivery service from shops and cafe'/restaurants would be available 0000hrs.

As the announcement extends all the restrictions placed on May 12, mass prayers in mosques also remain off limits till May 25.

Maldives is currently facing the worst wave of COVID-19, since community spread was found in April 2020. Over a thousand people test positive everyday, while the number of COVID fatalities also increase.

So far 45,956 people have tested for COVID-19 in Maldives.
