State funds harbour development on 3 islands

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, on Sunday, signed on two companies to develop harbours on three islands.

Director General of National Planning Fathmath Shana Farooq stated that the construction of all three harbours was funded by the state.

During the signing ceremony held at the ministry, SAS E Construction Pvt Ltd was awarded the construction of harbour navigation lights, groynes and the harbour of Noomaraa, Shaviyani Atoll. The project will cost MVR 9.9 million and is allocated a one-year period for completion.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted to develop the harbours of Henbadhoo, Noonu Atoll, and Meedhoo, Seenu Atoll. MTCC was allocated 300 days to complete construction in Henbadhoo, with the project cost totalling MVR 26.6 million.

The project in Meedhoo, Seenu Atoll, which involves the construction of a seawall, harbour navigation lights and further excavation to increase the depth of the harbour, will cost the state MVR 35.4 million.
