Special talks have been scheduled between the delegation from FIFA and clubs that were denied participation in the Extraordinary Congress hosted by Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
The delegation of FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) representatives tasked with uncovering the status of FAM and football are due to arrive in Maldives on Friday.
FAM hosted the Extraordinary Congress in question during February to to address the formation of committees that had failed to materialize in four long years. Some clubs had been denied participation in the discussions held earlier this year.
Club Valencia alleges that they had been denied an invitation to the Extraordinary Congress as FAM's President Bassam Adeel Jaleel had "lost control over them." However, FAM maintains that Valencia was issued an invitation to the event, and that they had even registered the names of Club Chairman Abdulla Azumeen and Vice President Ibrahim Hussain as participants at FAM's Extraordinary Congress.
Valencia deny these allegations and have issued a complaint, which is why FIFA's delegation is now en route to Maldives to resolve the issue. Some clubs aside from Valencia have also filed similar with FIFA citing issues of having been denied an invitation to FAM's Extraordinary Congress in February.
The joint delegation made up of FIFA and AFC representatives are also scheduled to meet FAM leadership during their trip. An official revealed to "Mihaaru" that the delegation will also be touching base with Sports Comissioner Mohamed Tholal in addition to the Maldives Olympic Committee, with meetings scheduled to begin Monday.
Under the now-obsolete calendar for this year, FAM was scheduled to hold elections on Friday. The vote was postponed indefinitely by FIFA last month.
This is the second time FIFA has issued an order to suspend FAM elections. FAM first attempted to host the elections on January 31, but were denied by FIFA as they had failed to establish some essential committees prior to initiating election procedures. Some clubs have raised questions on the legitimacy of FAM's Extraordinary Congress and its ability to form the committees needed to keep the football association operational.
