Bank of Maldives (BML) has said that over 66,000 accounts have been opened at the bank by 23,000 new customers in 2023.

BML described the trust placed in the bank by customers and the provision of quality services as their biggest accomplishment.

In addition to the large number of new customers that BML has gained over the last year, 2023 also proved to be financially successful for the bank as well. The bank received MVR 2 billion as net profit by the end of 2023.

The bank is currently undertaking several efforts to further enhance the services it provides to customers.

BML's Director of Customer Service Gulnaz Mahir stated that the biggest priority of the bank is to provide solid, secure, and convenient services to its customers.

In May 2023, BML introduced their digital banking assistant 'Aaya'.

Aaya is an intelligent chat bot who provides 24 hour service to customers who seek assistance via multiple mediums, including the bank's website, Facebook Messenger, Viber and Whatsapp.

Gulnaz highlighted that to offer more ease of use, Aaya is able to communicate with customers in both Dhivehi and English languages.

"Out of 47,000 chats initiated by customers last year, 53 percent were responded to via Aaya. This demonstrates that Aaya is able to provide the services sought by customers, without the customers having to call the bank directly to seek said services. Aaya also resulted in increasing the bank's digital communication," she said.

Gulnaz stated that in 2023, a 24 percent increase had been observed in resolving issues raised by customers.
