Former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath was transferred to house arrest late Saturday.

Media Official of Maldives Correctional Service Ahmed Luguman has confirmed that Ziyath who was convicted in relation to the infamous MMPRC corruption.

However, Lugman did not disclose why Ziyath was moved to house arrest.

Ziyath was arrested on October 23, 2015 and later sentenced to eight years.

The former MD has 33 additional cases against him. Hearings for these cases are ongoing.

Investigations into the MMPRC scandal commenced in 2015, and several cases were forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office last year for indictment.

Anti-Corruption Commission had recently revealed that the state funds embezzled via MMPRC amount to a staggering MVR 1.4 billion.
