There is a culture of lawlessness in Maldives: Ihusan

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has said that at present there is a culture of lawlessness in the Maldives, and said that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has instructed him to resolve this issue.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 'Male' Fahi' program last night, the Minister said that implementing the law is given the highest precedence in this administration, and asserted that the ministry and all agencies under its purview are striving 24/7 to achieve this.

Ihusan assured that they will work dedicatedly to implement the regulations and resolve the issues that come up through the Male' Fahi program as well.

The Minister said that vehicle registration in Male' had been done through compromising the Transport Ministry's portal and doing registrations on its backend. He asserted that those responsible for doing so would be identified and taken action against.

In addition to this, there has also been the issue of vehicles being driven with fake license plates, modifying silencers to be loud and jarring so as to become a public nuisance, abandoning old and unused vehicles on the road, he said, adding that all this will be addressed.

"There is a culture of disregarding the law and regulations in this country. The President has instructed to change this culture. With collaboration of institutes, we will ensure to do so," Ihusan said.

The Minister said that under the Male' Fahi program, vehicles near schools, hospitals and mosques will continue to be towed until parking issues are solved. Easy accessways to residences will also be placed, and vehicles parked in a way to obstruct these will also be towed, he added.
