Boat in Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo lagoon had caught on fire on Friday, and has burnt down.
Police said they received reports of the fire around 11:15 this morning. No one was injured in the incident.
President of Funadhoo Council Ahmed Ibrahimfulhu had told Mihaaru News that they believe the incident occurred due to an electrical issue. There was no one present on the boat when the fire broke out. He said smoke started to come out of the vessel and then suddenly was lit on fire.
According to the council president, witnesses say the boat caught on fire within seconds and as fast as "the time it takes for a raindrop to fall."
Locals, a boat near Kommandoo, and police worked together to put the fire out.
However, most of the boat has been burnt so badly that is likely to be unusable.
Police are investigating this case further.
