Maldives Police Service confirmed on Tuesday that a fire broke out at the landfill site in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll, during the early hours of the day.
Police disclosed that the fire was first reported to the authorities at around 0215hrs.
According to the Police, the fire has now been controlled with the efforts of Police personnel along with the people of the island.
Further details about the incident are yet to be disclosed although Police announced that the matter was currently under investigation.
