The Maldivian government on Thursday issued land plots from the 'Diplomatic Enclave' in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', to establish the embassies of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this decision came after the administrations of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh released land plots to establish Maldivian embassies in their respective lands.

Maldives first issued a plot from the Diplomatic Enclave to India. The foundation stones of the Indian Embassy's Chancery Building were laid by Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during his official visit to Maldives earlier this month.

The Diplomatic Enclave in Hulhumale' was developed in order to house all foreign embassies and consulates within a single area. The government made the decision to ensure higher security for foreign diplomats and to alleviate congestion in capital Male' City.

The government is yet to disclose details of the land plots issued.
