Police cadet Abdul Basith, 19, drowned at Vaanee, Dhaalu Atoll.
The deceased hailed from Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.
According to police, he drowned during a police recruitment training swimming session. A special team from the Professional Standard Command is investigating the cause of the incident.
