Two Maldivians arrested in Chennai airport over drug possession

Chennai's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday arrested two Maldivians at the city airport over attempting to travel to Maldives with 1KG of hashish oil.

Indian media Times of India reported that the two were Abdulla Alim aged 22 and Shamsiyya Mohamed aged 24, and they were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The publication further revealed that the illicit substances were stored in shampoo bottles, and they were attempting to transit via Sri Lanka to capital city Male' in a Sri Lankan Airlines flight.

The substances were stored in foil papers kept in shampoo bottles from different brands.

According to NCB, the two arrived in India on July 23 and stayed in Trivandrum. The duo then travelled to Chennai wherein they collected the drugs whereupon they were under surveillance until their arrest at the check-in counter at the airport while attempting to fly back to Maldives.
