Unix Sporting announced 'Run for Maldives', the first international virtual marathon in the country.
Held in celebration of the 55th Independence Day and dedicated to workers operating on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, 'Run for Maldives' will commence on would be held on September 27, World Tourism Day.
Participants will be required to complete challenges within an allocated timeframe by running in their homes, on treadmills or at outdoor locations. The event intends to support unity and encourage social relationships, despite the continued implementation of lockdown measures across the world to curb the spread of the virus.
Categories in 'Run for Maldives' include 5.5 km, 15 km, 21 km and 870 km. The latter is a team event which must be jointly completed by units of five members.
Interested individuals from Maldives and around the world, above the age of 5, can register for the virtual marathon starting from August 31 onwards. Further, Unix Sporting assured that registration fees would be lower than rates charged for previous events.

Following the virtual marathon, each runner will receive a medal of participation.
Additionally, 10 individuals will be granted a free stay at Unix Sporting's partner resorts and hotels following a lucky draw which will be overseen by a licensed audit firm.
