Tarring of the link road, under construction between reclaimed suburb Hulhumale and airport island Hulhule, has commenced.
The link road is designed to join up with the Hulhule end of the landmark Sinamale Bridge being developed between Hulhule and capital Male City.
While tarring of the road has commenced, the placement of revetments to protect the land reclaimed to expand the link road is also approaching completion. However, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is yet to disclose a date scheduled to finish the work.
Design and development of the Hulhule-Hulhumale link road was awarded to Hunan Construction Engineering Group of China for USD 24 million (MVR 370 million).
The Sinamale Bridge links Male and Hulhule from the Lonuziyaaraiy area of the capital to the southern end of Velana International Airport's runway. The link road begins from the Hulhule end of the bridge and joins Hulhumale at its eastern coast.
Meanwhile, the project to expand and tar Male's ring road is ongoing in preparation of the bridge's unveiling, which is scheduled for late August.
