Summer Island Maldives secured the Holiday Check Gold Award, a prestigious accolade in the global tourism industry.

The awards are annually awarded in January to the most popular destinations across the world, based on customer reviews.

To be eligible for the Holiday Check Award, a hotel or resort must secure a recommendation rate of at least 90 percent and receive a minimum of 50 new reviews between December 1, 2018 and November 30, 2019.

The exclusive Holiday Check Gold Award, introduced in 2017, is a special award for properties that have attained the Holiday Check Award for five consecutive years in addition to outstanding reviews.

While 732 hotels in 38 countries received the Holiday Check Award, only 188 properties secured the Gold Award. The recipients of 2020 awards were finalised after considering over 950,000 guest reviews.

Summer Island Maldives also won South Asia’s Leading Beach Resort and Maldives’ Leading Beach Resort at the 2017 and 2018 South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) awards.

A 4-star resort located in Kaafu Atoll, Summer Island is one of Maldives’ first resorts and still remains under local ownership.

Summer Island Maldives recently installed the world’s largest 3–D printed reef, in an effort to help corals adapt to warmer temperatures.

The project is part of the resort’s environmental initiatives, which include bans on plastic bottles, bags and drinking straws, as well as efforts to shift to solar power.
