Telecom giant Ooredoo Maldives introduced eSIM services in Maldives on Sunday.

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed and Ooredoo Maldives' CEO Najib Khan launched the brand new eSIM services at a special event held at Dharubaaruge convention centre.

According to Ooredoo, eSim card replaces the currently used plastic SIM card with a virtually embedded equivalent, which enables customers to integrate up to nine different numbers on a single device.

The eSIM is available for prepaid, postpaid and tourist plan customers with a compatible phone, including iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and Google Pixel 3.

"Ooredoo Maldives has always been at the forefront of connecting Maldivians to the latest technologies and innovative services from the global ICT sector. We are very excited that Ooredoo customers will be the first to experience eSIMs in the Maldives, allowing them to use multiple numbers on the same phone. The services also allows added ease and convenience to the millions of travelers visiting our nation, who can easily purchase a digital eSIM online and activate their tourist plans. The eSIM will further enable our Internet of Things (IoT) journey, and increases our readiness to partake in the digital future”, said CEO Najib Khan.

The company assured that it will continue to invest in new digital technologies and innovations to enrich the digital lifestyle of Maldivians.
